| Discovery Notes | Sample was collected on 9/12/22 on the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus from an actively used flower pot in front of the Hampshire dining facility (DFAC). Hampshire DFAC is located on the southwest portion of campus. The flower pot was in direct sunlight and was unpolluted by waste. The soil was moist, dark, and rich in nutrients. |
| Naming Notes | The name derives from Johnny Cash’s hit song Ring of Fire. Our phage has a large burst size with an obvious ring/halo. So in a way, it is growing large and quick like fire and it has a natural ring shape, hence the name. |
