Discovery NotesTo discover our phage, we collected three samples from various areas on Gonzaga University's campus. There is a pond behind one of our lecture halls names Jepson. There we collected two samples from different grassy areas, one close to the water and the other in the middle of the grassy area, where there is more foot traffic. The other sample was gathered from a garden bed, that had one lone rose bush. That specific garden bed was found behind Jepson as well.
The phages were then cultured at 22 degrees C.
Naming NotesThe name of this phage comes from the initials of our names. My first name starts with and S and last name with an O, and my partners name starts with A, her middle name with an L and her last name starts with C. That is how we came up with SOCAL!
