Discovery NotesPhage Brendan was discovered following the University of Pittsburgh protocol guide. By following the standard guidelines for isolating a novel phage i was able to grow and develop a series of plaques that resembled phage life present.
Naming NotesThe name of the phage came from my first name. My name is Brendan and it made sense for me to name it after myself
Sequencing Information
Sequencing Complete?No
Sequencing FacilityPittsburgh Bacteriophage Institute
Genome length (bp)Unknown
Character of genome endsUnknown
Fasta file available?No
Characterization
ClusterUnclustered
Subcluster--
Lysogeny NotesThe lysogeny is clear in the photo below. The phages that were extracted on the plaques pictured were lytic. This is indicated by the clearing present at every plaque. There isn’t any area where gordonia may be alive. The gordonia was consumed entirely because of the phages.
Annotating InstitutionUnknown or unassigned
Annotation StatusNot sequenced
Plaque NotesThe plaques were difficult to determine if there was just one present. This was becuase there was a series of sizes present on the Pyca plate itself. However, after numerous attempts at plaque purification it was denoted that the plaques present were in fact just one phage
