Discovery NotesThe soil sample was from the public beach access walkway at Folly Beach across from the 8th Street West. The sample was specifically taken from the sand beside the 8W walkway marker sign on Folly Beach to the right hand side of the end of the walkway if walking towards the ocean.
Naming NotesClipeorum is the plural genitive case of the Latin word for shield. Clipeus, when declined in this way translates to mean "belonging to the shields" or "of the shields." Since my last name is Shields I thought this would be an interesting way to incorporate my last name into the virus name.
