Discovery NotesI found lachesis in a planter that was just watered. It was located next to the William Pitt Union on Bigelow blvd. Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. The planter had dark, wet soil. Along with flowers. I simply took the top soil instead of digging deeper in the planter. I dug up the soil with a metal spoon and stored the soil in a ziplock, air tight bag until it was used in a laboratory setting.
Naming NotesThe name for this phage came from influence from Greek Mythology. Lachesis is one of the fates. He is responsible for measuring ones life. Since phages have a possibility of saving someone with a bacterial disease life, it is almost like they could be in charge of ones lifespan. This relates to the job of Lachesis, one of the Greek fates.
