Discovery NotesMicrocomedones (blackheads) were extracted from the nose of Andy Vu using a Biore Pore Strip on 04/06/2015. The skin was unwashed and slightly oily, and no moisturizer had been applied. Sample was enriched in RCM media with P. acnes strain ATCC 6919 under anaerobic conditions at 37oC.

Phage Leviosa was isolated, characterized, and annotated by Team Plaquille O’Neal and Team You Can’t Phage with Us (YCPWU).

Plaquille O'Neal: Connie Giang, Adilene Barajas, Andy Vu, Samantha Kaufhold
YCPWU: Aparna Vancheswaran, Lariska Theron, Naeha Lakshmanan, Suruchi Salgar
TA: Rocky Ng
Instructor: Jordan Moberg Parker

Of Note: Leviosa was able to lyse phage resistant P. acnes strain B101.9 (ribotype 2), which is known to contain CRISPR loci, and was not able to be lysed by other class phages, Cota and LilBandit.
Naming NotesNamed after the spell in Harry Potter.
