Discovery Notes- Discovered August 27, 2017 in a field beside Food Lion.
- Very warm that day, in the upper eighties.
- Soil sample was taken next to an anthill, a couple of inches down into the topsoil.
- Environment was fully exposed to sunlight.
- Surrounding vegetation was scrub and dry grass; grew more lush further infield.
Naming NotesThe phage was found in a field beside a local Food Lion ("Lion"), but during the initial amplification step, it fizzled out out of the culture dishes, revealing its relatively delicate nature ("lamb"). 89 was added at the end was just because.
Sequencing Information
Sequencing Complete?No
Genome length (bp)Unknown
Character of genome endsUnknown
Fasta file available?No
Characterization
ClusterUnclustered
Subcluster--
Lysogeny NotesPhage is lysogenic due to a turbid plaque morphology.
Annotating InstitutionUnknown or unassigned
Annotation StatusNot sequenced
Plaque NotesPlaques are turbid (meaning the phage is lysogenic), and are 1-2 milimeters in diameter.

Lionlamb89 requires a higher concentration per aliquot to manifest on the culture plates.

NOTE: Halfway through the semester, we used a new culture of M. smeg, and the plaques in the culture plates appeared only 1 mm in length.
