Discovery NotesPhutbol was extracted from a backyard compost pile on the 25th of August, 2017, at 3:12 PM. The soil from the compost pile was sampled at a depth of six inches from a pile of about three feet in depth. The soil was moist and shaded. Phutbol was isolated through direct isolation.
Naming NotesMy passion for fútbol (the colloquial Spanish spelling of soccer) inspired this phage name.

Plaque NotesPhutbol’s plaques have two distinct morphologies. Both of the morphologies have a clear center and a turbid edge. The two plaques morphologies differ in size, however. One has a diameter of approximately 0.5 mm and the other of about 1 mm.
