Logistics and Supplemental Information

This information was contained in a document in your workshop materials.

Parking

Parking is available IF you request it. Return the Parking Request Form to Deborah Jacobs-Sera by May 6, 2011.

Parking will be provided at the University of Pittsburgh’s Soldiers & Sailors Garage or at the OC lot on Aliquippa Street (if you are staying on campus). The campus map shows the location of these parking areas. If you are staying on-campus, Panther Central will give you directions of where and how to park. If you are commuting, you do not need a permit to access the Soldiers & Sailors garage Monday morning. Simply drive into the garage, take a ticket, and park. You will be given parking stickers Monday morning at our welcome breakfast. You will need to place a sticker on the ticket that you receive in the morning to exit the garage in the evening.

Housing

Housing is available for participants from out of state. Please submit the Request for Housing form in the enclosed packet if you are requesting housing. Housing is provided through the University at Pennsylvania Hall. For check-in, you must be pre-registered. A form is enclosed. This form is due back to me by May 6th. This will provide you with your room key.

You can check into the dorms on Sunday at your convenience. You will have your own room that shares a bathroom with one or two other participants. Rooms are air-conditioned and equipped with a microwave and dorm refrigerator. Parking, for those who are staying at the University, is available at the OC Lot on Aliquippa Street (located by the Peterson Center and tree’s Hall).

Be advised:

Check-In Procedure: Upon arrival to campus, FIRST report to Panther Central, located in the main lobbies of Litchfield Towers to obtain your key card to the dorms. Then proceed to Pennsylvania Hall.

Meningococcal Vaccine

If you are staying in Pennsylvania Hall, you must complete the University’s Meningococcal Vaccine Form prior to arrival. A brochure is included for background information. It is not required that you receive the meningococcal vaccine, just that you verify that you know this information. Please return it with the other required paperwork.

Clothing

You should dress comfortably, but bear in mind that you will be in a laboratory, so please dress appropriately. A few safety reminders for working in the laboratory:

  • No open-toed shoes
  • No baggy clothing
  • Tie back long hair
