Discovery NotesThe sample was collected in a damp area that had roof covering over it from a school building. It was very moist outside in the air as well as humid from recent rain. The soil was soft in the surrounding area of dirt but, it was tougher under the covering of the building as it was drier. The surrounding area from the soil sample was covered in fallen decaying leaves and roots from larger plants. It was in the foliage area of a plant box where the larger tree type plants with fanning leaves as cover. It was covered by a building ledge so some of the elements would not be able to reach it such as wind, rain, and occasionally moments of sunlight. In the process of one of the labs to create webbed plates that contain plaques through serial dilutions (10^0to 10^-8), it was very interesting to see that our phage sample would only grow plaques in large amounts on the original plate 10^0 instead of the later dilutions of 10^-1 all the way to 10^-8. In our research we noticed that the serial dilutions of our phage sample were very consistent in their growth pattern. The farthest our sample would create plaques consistently would be to the dilution 10^-3, so our only plates that would show data each time we did a serial dilutions would be 10^0,10^-1,10-^2, and 10^-3; the occasional 10^-4 . Our phage is finicky and likes not to be tampered with in extra processes such things like enrichment of its environment or intentional changes to its growth patterns.
Naming NotesThe name was made combining both myself, Elizabeth, and my lab partners names together, Abigail Wilcer. Abigail was my partner and helped raised our phage from the start.
