Discovery NotesThis soil sample was discovered and collected on 9/18/17. It was 74 degrees out, and the soil was slightly damp and tended to crumble a little bit. It was discovered on the Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus in back of the Undergraduate Teaching Labs. The soil sample came from the mulch-like dirt surrounding one of the trees here.
Naming NotesBritishU was one of the phages isolated from this particular sample collected by the founder. The plaques from this isolated phage were very large and easy too see. Therefore, they are like the letter u that is commonly found in British and Canadian spellings of words, such as favourite, that are easily noticeable.
