Discovery NotesCaliente was found under a flower bed on the Gonzaga University campus. The soil was of dark color, was wet and damp, contained small amounts of sand and rock, and was exposed to very little foot traffic.
Naming NotesCaliente was named because of its preference for hot climates. Among all the phages discovered in Gonzaga's 2013 Fall Semester Phage Lab, it was the only bacteriophage to grow at all under hot conditions.
