Discovery NotesThis phage was taken from an environmental sample outside of Gonzaga University's greenhouse. The original sample contained wet mineral soil with small pieces of moss inside the test tube. After enriching the soil, we filtered out the unwanted soil particles and prepared plaque assays to further dilute and find a single plaque morphology.
Naming NotesBoth Noah and I are from California and we love our home state. We wanted to put a little creative twist on the spelling on California to include that fact that it was a phage, so we substituted the "f" for "ph".

Plaque NotesOur plaques have been clear in appearance through out this entire experiment. They have consistently had a diameter of 1mm to 3 mm. In the beginning our phage was producing so many plaques that we had to dilute our phage multiple times to get a pure plaque isolation in order to make sure we were collecting a single plaque morphology.
