Discovery NotesCally was isolated from a soil sample in a creek bed in a neighborhood in Indianapolis, Indiana. The soil from which the phage was isolated was scraped from the surface of the ground and was very saturated with water. The ambient temperature was approximately 29°C.
Sequencing Information
Sequencing Complete?No
Genome length (bp)Unknown
Character of genome endsUnknown
Fasta file available?No
Cluster Life CycleLytic
Lysogeny NotesCally is a temperate phage and is capable of producing stable lysogens.
Annotation StatusNot sequenced
Plaque NotesThe phage was isolated and purified at 32°C. The plaques are turbid and have a bullseye morphology. At 24 hours, the bullseye is hard to distinguish due to the small size (≈0.15 cm). At 48 hours and beyond the bullseye is easier to see and the plaque size is larger (≈0.25 cm). When incubated at 42°C, plaques grew with a normal morphology, however there were slightly fewer plaques on the 42°C plate than on the 32°C control.
