| Discovery Notes | The soil sample was collected at 10:56 a.m. in Pittsburgh across the street from the Hillman Library, in between the panther statue in front of the William Pitt Union and the Pittsburgh Stop outdoor clothing vendor. The soil was damp but not completely wet, as there was a sprinkler nearby that only slightly sprinkled water onto the collection location. The sample was collected about 1/2 inch below the surface and contained mulch and other organic matter. Nearby vegetation included small leaved bushes, acorns, fallen leaves from a tree above the soil, and a lawn of grass right beside the soil. A tree above the soil created a shady environment for the soil with some sun. The soil was transported for 2 hours and 45 minutes and stored on top of a dresser in a room temperature room with no sunlight but some artificial lighting for approximately 45 hours. |
