Discovery NotesThis phage came from a soil sample from Highland, New York on the bank of the Hudson River. The sample was obtained on August 28, 2013. The temperature was 29 C. The sample was from an area extremely saturated with stagnant water. The area receives scare to no foot traffic; train tracks were about 5ft away; the Hudson was about 30 ft away; and a quiet street was about 10 ft away.
Naming Notes"Drac109" is a reference to the band My Chemical Romance and their fourth album Danger Days: the True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, as well as the associated comic book. The name "Drac" is derived from the word "Draculoid"; a nickname given to the armed forces of Better Living Industries. Draculoids are just employed to kill whomever gets in their way and are easily expendable (phage lyse any bacteria they can get near and DNA repetition causes endless generations). "109" is also a repeated number throughout the album and comic.
