Discovery NotesThe dirt sample was collected from the water’s edge of a pond. The dirt was firm and damp. There were many different types of vegetation growing in the dirt, including grass and weeds. There was also some dead grass on top of the dirt. The water next to the dirt was stagnant. It had rained for a couple hours in the morning, and at the time of collection it was very cloudy and humid. The sample was collected at the pond at Frontier Park on the north side right by the water. It was 73 degrees outside and 84% humidity.
Naming NotesWe decided to name our phage Epeius because, according to legend, he is the one person who led the building of the Trojan Horse. In a way, our phage infecting the host cells was like the Trojan Horse entering Troy.
