Discovery NotesThe soil was collected from a garden on the back right corner of the Soldier's and Sailor's Museum in Pittsburgh on the University of Pittsburgh campus. The soil was dry and there were dead flowers within several feet of the spot where the sample was collected; such information eludes to the fact that this spot had not received rain or any water for at least one day. The time of collection was approximately 4:00 PM ET and it was around 85-90 degrees Fahrenheit.
Naming NotesThe name of this phage came from the 1993 classic,Free Willy. It was spontaneous decision but I believe it represents my spirit and optimism about my phage and this lab.
