Discovery NotesThe soil was collected from a flower bed on a cloudy day at 10:15 AM on September 21, 2013. The when collected the soil was slightly moist.
Naming NotesWe chose the name HotSauce because we had a frustrating time isolating a phage. Throughout the lab we joked that the phage was "too cool" to grow. We developed the nickname "HotSauce" because of this, and the nickname stuck.

Plaque NotesPlaques created by HotSauce are small and circular approximately 0.2mm in diameter. After our second round of streaking to isolate the our plaques took on a slight morphology change. In order to ensure that we had isolated ONE phage, we streaked our plaques again. From this we cultivated plates with plaques uniform in shape and size. The capsid length of the phage is 72.2 nm, and the tail length is 238.9 nm, making the total length 311.2 nm. Furthermore, our plaques were grown at room temperature (~25 degrees Celsius). When we ran a trial at 37 degrees Celsius, no plaques were seen, indicating that our phage is temperature specific.
