Discovery NotesThe sample was collected Monday, September 10, 2018 at 12:27pm on the campus of University of Maryland, Baltimore County behind its Performing Arts and Humanities building. At the time, the soil was very wet, hard, and gritty, but not muddy. It had small stones throughout the sample and there was no grass growing on or around the soil that I obtained. The soil felt cold and was taken from the top surface of the ground. Its color was dark brown.
Naming NotesThe name came from the fact that, during the time of collecting soil, it was very cold out and precipitation was falling. I could not tell if it was rain or hail, but it felt like hail. Therefore, we wanted to call this phage IcePhaze because of how cold the weather was when we obtained the soil.
