Discovery NotesI collected moist soil underneath a tree stump from a cassava farm very early in the morning after a rainstorm the previous night.
Naming NotesPhage was initially named sapheera, an acronym for all SEA-PHAGES students’ names in class. Since there was already an existing phage name, saphira with the homophone. I tweaked it to safire a variant name of “sapphire” a rare and beautiful gem.
