Discovery NotesPhage Yuzu was isolated from soil, collected on 4/2/22 by Sara Barcik Weissman, at a depth of about 16.76cm from soil taken in a parking lot 1 foot away from a rotting fruit and 4 feet away from cement. This sample was slightly moist. Air temp at time of collection was 18.9˚C.

Yuzu was isolated by enriched plating at 35˚C. Additional MgCl2 added to enrichment broth and MHA plates. Enrichment tube with 7H9/Glycerol and the cation 100 mM MgCl2 resulted in plaque formation following plating on MHA + MgCl2 plate.
Naming NotesThe soil sample from which Yuzu was isolated was found in the parking lot of an ice skating rink. The phage was named after the sample collector’s favorite figure skater, Yuzuru Hanyu, whose nickname is Yuzu.
