Engulfed in snow the day of collection

Because of the snow the soil was somewhat moist as the snow melted into it. The day of collection I used a small shovel to dig up the soil and had to dig around 1-2 inches before reaching the snow as it was layered with snow. I got about 2 shovels of soil that contained small pieces of rocks and and sticks that reassembled roots
