Discovery NotesThe soil I collected was near some small plants and shrubs. There were some plants that had flowers nearby. The soil contained some wood chips and small rocks around it, but after removing the top of the soil, I was able to find soil that didn’t have as many large objects. The soil wasn’t wet, but it was soft enough to the point where I was able to extract it easily with a hand shovel. I reached around 2 inches beneath the surface to collect the soil. The soil was lightly moist, dark, and crumbly.
Naming NotesWhen I looked at my plates from my direct isolation assay, the plaques on the plates reminded me of raindrops. The name Amaya means night rain and since this reflected how my phage looked, I named my phage Amaya.

Plaque NotesThe plaques of phage Amaya have circular edges and have a slight fuzziness. Phage Amaya has a diameter of 1 mm and a radius of 0.5 mm. Amaya had an unknown infection cycle initially due to some slight diameter growth over time, but after many experiments, my phage seemed to be leaning toward being a lysogenic phage.
