Discovery NotesAt 4:35 pm CDT on August 22, 2023, the soil sample was collected from around the pond behind The Glaske Center for Engineering, Science, and Technology at LeTourneau University. The hole was approximately 2.54 cm deep, and the soil was dark, moist, and contained lots of roots. The weather was sunny with a clear sky and ambient temperature of 38.9℃.
Naming NotesThe name Astalavista is a play on the Spanish phrase “hasta la vista” which means “see you later.” We had a tumultuous start and encountered a lot of setbacks and disappointments during the process of isolating a phage. But despite the disappointments we continued on and said “see you later” to all of the negative things that occurred.
