Discovery NotesMy soil sample was adopted from fellow classmate Aaqib Osmani. I originally planned on obtaining my own soil sample from the trails that run through Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve, but the location proved too dangerous as I kept getting followed by a pack of coyotes.

The soil Aaqib extracted was moist since it was being used to grow mint plants which had been watered 5-6 hours prior to the extraction. He collected the soil at 7:05 PM using a hand-held digger to reach 1-2 inches beneath the mint plant. He filled a ziplock bag to 75% capacity with the soil, which contained small blades of grass and roots. In addition, 5-6 inches below the soil extraction location were thick layers of clay.
Naming NotesI got the name "Isac" from a video game, The Division, based on a novel by Tom Clancy. The name belonged to an advanced artificial intelligence that aided you with real-time environmental analysis to keep you safe, forensics to investigate happenings and virus locations in New York, and pathfinding so as to not get lost. Since I'm in the SEAPHAGES program which is all about finding new bacteriophages that could potentially help benefit the health of people, I named my phage Isac in hopes that it might prove useful in the medical field.

Plaque NotesMy plaques were impure in that they came in three different diameters, 0.5mm, 1mm, and 2mm. All my plaques were lytic with clear edges, and even after purification I was unable to remove the undesired plaques. I chose the 1mm plaque for my phage since it remained the most prevalent throughout each plate.
