Discovery NotesSoil was collected underneath a tree outside the Fresh Food Kitchen, a dining hall at the Johns Hopkins Homewood Campus.Soil was dark, moist and taken at about 2.5 inches deep. The area was not heavily traversed. The phage was discovered as a result of an enrichment culture.
Naming NotesIt is my aspiration to become a fighter jet pilot, and I have always enjoyed super heroes. The name for this phage is derived from "Hal Jordan", my favorite Green Lantern, who was also a fighter pilot.

Plaque NotesThe phage has a tail with a length of approximately 2600nm and a head with a diameter about one third of that. At most concentrations, and when competing with other phages, this phage has tiny, pinpoint plaques with a cloudy area around them. When isolated in very high concentrations, the morphology of this change becomes much more unpredictable, shifting to a larger, uneven plaque with no surrounding cloudy area.
