Discovery NotesFound at a flowerbed in front of a Japanese restaurant. The soil was very piecey and contained many woodchips. Because it had rained prior to collection, the soil was damp, but not extremely wet because the soil was loosely packed. There was mud underneath the soil but was not included in the sample collected.
Naming NotesJEAT was the combined initials of the discoverers. This was not accepted because there was another phage with a similar name. The name was then changed to Kawaii because it is the Japanese word for "cute" and the phage was found in the soil from a flowerbed in front of a Japanese restaurant.
