Discovery NotesWe found our phage on the Gonzaga campus near the Music building. We pulled out dirt sample from a grassy lawn, near a large tree. The host bacteria for our phage was microbacterium foliorum.
Naming NotesWe had large plaques compared to the other phages in our class. It instantly reminded us of the retired basketball player Shaquille Oneil, who is known for his massive size. Since phages are tiny we added "lil" before the name shaq. So, we ended up with lil Shaq.
