Discovery NotesThis phage was discovered in a soil sample from my brother Steve's garden in Millersville, MD, which is very close to UMBC where the work was done, as part of my role as a facilitator at the 2023 Phage Discovery Workshop.
Naming NotesI named the phage Mattawa because my brother lives on Mattawa Court, so the name reflects the location where the phage was found. I looked up the name and I found that Mattawa means "meeting of the waters" in Ojibwa. This seems appropriate, as the neighborhood where his home is located is very close to the Severn River.
