| Discovery Notes | Phage WormRider16 was obtained on a raining late September afternoon. The temperature was a high 60 degrees and the rain had recently ceased. The dirt in which WormRider16 was found consisted of wood chips and mud and located in a raised flowerbed outside of the University of Pittsburgh Cathedral of Learning. |
| Naming Notes | WormRider16 was isolated from a flowerbed that contained baby 10mm Earthworms. When the soil was collected and poured into the 50ml conical tube of phage buffer for shaking, a baby earthworm fell in as well. "WormRider" infers that the phage was using the worm as transportation while "16" stands for the year, 2016, that the phage was found. |

| Plaque Notes | Phage WormRider16 produces circular plaques that vary in size from 1mm to 2mm. These plaques also range in clarity from the clearest of plaques to haloed plaques. This phage resembles that of the Siphoviridae variety. It has a long flexible tail and isometric head of approximately 300 and 70nm respectively. |
