Naming NotesPlato, an ancient and perhaps the most influential western philosopher of all time, wrote about the meaning of love in his work Symposium. Symposium describes a banquet of notable men who give speeches about the god of love and desire and about love itself. Aristophanes describes that humans were actually made of two heads, four arms, and four legs where one day we upset Zeus and thus he divided us all in equal halves, condemning us to look for our counterpart. From this, Aristophanes argues that love is the desire to be whole -- again.
