| Discovery Notes | Astravyn was discovered in moist soil collected from Matthew’s backyard the morning after a rainfall, when the ground was soft and rich with microbial activity. Using Arthrobacter as the host, we isolated the phage through enrichment, purification, and spot tests, eventually confirming its presence with consistent, clear plaques and a high titer of 5.6 × 10¹¹ pfu/mL. These results showed that Astravyn is both plentiful in the sample and efficient at infecting its host. |
| Naming Notes | The phage was named Astravyn to reflect a space-inspired theme, symbolizing exploration and the idea of uncovering something small but powerful in a vast environment. The name was chosen to capture the “cosmic” feel of discovery—connecting the microscopic world of phages to something bigger and more imaginative. |
