Discovery NotesWe obtained the soil sample from a ditch located outside the Forensic Science Institute. The soil was moist and had small worms living in the dirt. The texture of the soil was very gritty, with plant material mixed within the soil. The creek itself doesn’t get a lot of human foot traffic, but there is a sidewalk around 15 feet away. The depth of the collection was about 4 - 6 cm.
Naming Notesa reference to cleaning supplies with names like “grime-be-gone”, this bacteriophage uses the bacteria Microbacterium paraoxydansUW1 as a host and kills it to replicate, hence “bacteria-be-gone” or Bacbegone
