Discovery Notes | The soil sample was collected from a garden that was watered regularly. The soil was collected on Monday 9/25/23 at 4:16 pm. The temperature at the time of sampling was 15C. There was 43% precipitation and 81% humidity with a wind speed of 11 mph. The sampling site was first disturbed with a shovel. The shovel was used to dig approximately half a foot down into the soil. The top layer of the soil was slightly dry since it had not been watered and it did not rain that day but the soil half a foot down had a lot more moisture. I put on clean gloves and held open a clean plastic bag making sure that my hand did not touch the inside of the bag. I used the shovel to scoop the soil from the bottom of the hole and poured the soil into the bag being held open while making sure that the shovel never touched the inside of the bag. I filled the plastic bag approximately one-third of the way full and sealed it. I then stored the bag with the soil sample in the fridge at approximately 3C to 5C for around 18 hours before performing sample isolation. I added a few drops of water to the bag after about 16 hours to keep the soil from drying out too much. |

Plaque Notes | Most of these plaques are relatively clear without a cloudy ring around the outside. This indicates that these plaques are Lytic cycle plaques. The average size of the plaques found on this plate was .5 cm. Some of the plaques on this plate are larger than .5 cm and some are smaller. Most of the smaller plaques do not have a cloudy ring around them unlike the larger plaques. The plaques on this plate are also generally located on the left side of the plate with little to no plaques on the right side of the plate. |
