Discovery Notes | Soil sample collected August 27, 2015 around 9 AM, at Wyman Park. Sample was collected from underneath a bridge where the soil was not directly hit by the sun. The soil was clay-like. |
Naming Notes | The name was inspired by various qualities of the phage including its robustness indicated by its stability at room temperature. Also, the rate of bacterial lysis made it difficult to culture 6 web plates; although, appropriate calculations were done, the entire plate would result clear rather than webbed. I felt that the various meanings of the term 'bolt' accurately encompassed the "stubborn" and "speedy" nature of this phage. |

Plaque Notes | The clear nature of the phage plaque indicates that the phage is in the lytic cycle. Plaque sizes tend to differ, ranging from smaller plaques to larger plaques. Additional streaking of plaques of various sizes was done in order to assure an isolated phage was obtained. The head to tail length was nearly one-to-one (tail length: 199.58; head length: 207.18). Higher-Titer Lysate is stable at room temperature. |
