Discovery Notes | This phage was found behind the Department of Microbiology located in Morrill building 1 or the Public Health building on the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus. Specifically, this phage was also found beside Stockbridge Rd. which is a sidewalk on the campus. The soil conditions were moist since in this area the soil is covered with grass. |
Naming Notes | There is no specific reason for our group choosing this name for this phage. We chose this name because after multiple tries we found that this name was not used. We found that the name cyborg was not used by searching in the Actinobacteriophage database and then chose to add the name penguin to the end because our entire group likes the animal. Our group also thinks that our phage name is unique and that is another reason why we chose it. |

Plaque Notes | The average size of the plaques that this phage makes is between 0.5 to 4 mm. The plaques have a dark halo or ring around a turbid and cloudy center. The plaques have a yellowish, white bullseye similar to the bacteria, Microbacterium foliorum. Inside this turbid bullseye is a small dark bullseye. The plaques have regular edges and the plaques are confined by a halo. |
