Discovery Notes | The site where I obtained my sample is located right outside the main entrance to Western Kentucky’s Thompson Complex North Wing building. The area is surrounded by a few large trees and grasses. The site is near a road and a sidewalk/pavement where there is ample foot traffic. When this sample was taken, the area was very dry and low in moisture content. My sample type was a soil sample from a depth of 5 cm. It was taken taken on 9/17/13. It was approximately 68oF. |
Naming Notes | I thought of my phage name while listening to an Indian song called DesiGirl. |

Lysogeny Notes | Because my phage primarily produces small, turbid plaques, I believe that I have a temperate phage. |

Plaque Notes | My phage produces small, turbid plaques. These plaques are generally very cloudy and can be viewed clearly in a well-lit room. These plaques generally took around 24-48 hours of incubation time to develop. 48 hours for optimal results. During my 1 plate infection, one of my plates had evidence of different plaque morphology - the plaques were large and clear. This shows that some of my temperate phages underwent the lytic cycle and became lytic phages. No evidence of large, clear lytic plaques were seen after that. |
