Discovery NotesWe isolated and increased the concentration of this phage by performing a series of experiments. The first experiment we performed was enrichment by collecting a hopeful soil sample containing the appropriate phage that would infect the m.Smeg bacteria we mixed and plated it with, and also to nourish and support the growth of the m.Smeg bacteria colonies in order for infection to occur illustrated in figure 1. We derived our soil sample by a creek in front of the CU Boulder Department of Geological Sciences.
Naming NotesDiva17 was named as a "diva" due to its ambitious and strong ability to infect m.Smeg bacteria, create many plaques after several rounds of serial dilutions, and clearing complete plaque assay agar plates.
