| Discovery Notes | I obtained this soil sample from my lab partner, Isabel Damazo. Soil sample was collected at 7:41pm on 9/10/18 at (40.445123 N, 79.959669 W) near the top of the Chevron Stairs in Oakland. The ambient temperature was 68 degree F and the humidity was 92%. The soil was very wet and surrounded by grass and assorted decomposing foliage, with a few trees approximately 20 feet away from the collection site. The site was on a slope. Soil was transported for 5 minutes, stored at room temperature for about 13 hours, then transported for about 4.5 hours to the lab. |
| Naming Notes | My last name is Fitzgerald so I have been nicknamed "Fitz" in the past. This name is a play on the"ph" sound in "phage", so I chose to name my phage Phitz. After I was informed that Phitz was not allowed as it is too similar to "Fitz", a pre-existing phage, I changed the name to "Elephino", a combination of the words Elephant and Rhino. |

| Plaque Notes | Elephino creates plaques with two different morphologies. The first is small, about 1 mm in diameter, and clear, while the second is larger, about 3 mm, and consists of a clear center with a cloudy halo. |
