Discovery NotesThe soil sample containing the phage was collected in a garden, specifically near corn crops. The sample was collected in the morning so the ground was still moist. The garden is fertilized every spring with horse feces. Besides the shade from the corn stalks above, the area is exposed to the sun for most of the year and only produces crops once a year. Once, the phage was isolated in the lab, the plaques were always very large and numerous.
Naming NotesThe name EtowahDuri is derived from the name of my hometown, Etowah, and the latin word for "hardy," which is Duri. Etowah is where the phage was found, and the plaques were always numerous and very large, so Duri was a fitting addition to the name.
