Discovery NotesSample description: Park, lots of dogs, Next to a tree, Less grass, Some rainwater leftover, Suburban area, Moderate foot traffic
Depth from which sample was taken: 3 cm
Air temperature if sample collected outdoors (in degrees Celsius): 21.7
Direct Plating or Enrichment: Enrichment
Enrichment protocol used (if any): Host-Enrichment using Arthrobacter sulfureus, Arthrobacter sp., A. atrocyaneus, and Arthrobacter globiformis. The soil sample containing the phage was incubated at 30 degrees Celsius for 15 hours with the host bacteria mixture. The mixture was then plated and incubated for 30 degrees Celsius for 48 hours to elicit plaque formation for observation.

Naming NotesPlackieChan was named in honor of Jackie Chan, who voiced the character Master Monkey in Kung Fu Panda. Our team name is “Furious Phive,” also in reference to Kung Fu Panda, so we thought it would be fitting to name our phage after the voice actor of a Furious Five member. Two of our group members are big fans of Monkey, so the name Plackie Chan fits well into our narrative.
