Naming NotesPhage GeneralSherman was named after civil war general William Tecumseh Sherman, who demonstrated the first modern act of total warfare in his March to the Sea. William Tecumseh Sherman practiced a form of warfare where he destroyed everything in his path which was later coined "scorched earth". This phage acted similarly in early enrichment plaque assays by clearing bacteria from plates completely.
