| Discovery Notes | There was a thunderstorm that uprooted an urban street tree. The soil was taken from a small ditch where the tree used to stand. The sample was taken at 8:47 a.m. EST on August 28, 2023. The soil can be characterized as dry and loose, surrounded by mulch that had fallen into the ditch. |
| Naming Notes | My parents were helping me move into my new apartment when the thunderstorm started. We were holed up inside, waiting for it to pass. It was a nice moment, a pause between my childhood and my adulthood. We noticed the fallen tree after the storm ended. I chose the name GivingTree after one of my favorite childhood books, "The Giving Tree," to honor my childhood memories as well as the fallen tree. |
