Discovery NotesAt 10:15 CDT on August 27, 2024, the soil sample was collected from the dirt piles behind the LeTourneau University rugby field. After the top layer of soil and grass was removed, a hole was dug, and the sample was collected. The soil was light brown, very dry, and had lots of grass in it. The weather was sunny, with a clear sky and an ambient temperature of 30°C.
Naming NotesThis phage was named GoldenChild because during the experiment, our group initially worked on two samples, both of which yielded plaques on the spot test. One of those samples, nicknamed "ProblemChild," had to be abandoned due to difficulties isolating a pure virus and lack of time. However, the other phage was easy to work with, thus leading our group to name it GoldenChild.
