Discovery Notes | This phage sample was collected in between Thompson Hall and South College buildings. Most of the surrounding soil was covered in snow with only a small patch of soil being visible. The soil was damp. |
Naming Notes | The name we chose for our phage is GreenRat. We got inspiration for this name from our first lab procedure. When we had to get soil collections, D Vohra had a green piece of fertilizer in her soil. From there, we took the word green. The Rat part of the word comes from the idea that the phage has failed us many times. We’ve had to do both isolation and purification multiple times and it has left us somewhat annoyed- just like a rat. |

Plaque Notes | 3 different morphologies; First type of plaque was very small with an extremely small center, clear (about 2.5-3mm in diameter) For second type, there were 2 separated plaques that all look to have formed a bullseye around a smaller “dot” than the third type, formed a one ring outside of the center (about 6.5mm in diameter) Third type formed with two conjoined plaques, one right in the middle, and one a the very side of the plate; plaques were somewhat cloudy, the center was bigger than type two, a double ring formed outside of the center (about 9mm in diameter) |
