Discovery NotesThe Environmental Sample was collected from a potted plant obtained in the laboratory at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. The soil was collected from the middle of the plant's root base. The soil was black, dry and encompassed by roots. Small amounts of vermiculite were present in the soil. Direct Isolation was performed and Phages were extracted from the solid environmental sample, enriched with broth 7H9, shaken at 37℃ for 1.5 hours incubation time, and centrifuged for 5 minutes at 4000 g.
Naming NotesHope 3000 was selected as the name of the phage due to a book called The Perfect Predator. The book was based on a true story where the authors husband fell extremely ill and was treated with phage therapy. When all other treatments failed phage therapy prevailed. The name Hope 3000 represents a phage that may be useful to science and beneficial to people. The latter 3000 part of the name is for the tradition that has been kept at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
