| Discovery Notes | The soil I chose from Tall Grass in Naperville, IL was dry and had a crumbly texture. The location of the soil was from the outskirts of a pond located in Tall Grass (a neighborhood in Naperville). Because I found the soil near a pond, I thought the soil would be moister and have a clay-like consistency, but instead, it was very dry. In order to retrieve the sample, I utilized surgical gloves to avoid contamination of the environmental sample. With the gloves on, I attempted to remove as much of the large pieces of wood and roots from the sample to make analyzing it slightly easier. I retrieved about ½ pound of soil. The physical description of the sample was it is dark brown with small pieces of wood and roots dispersed throughout the sample. |
| Naming Notes | The reason I chose to name my phage Izek was because it was a combination of my partner's and mine last name. |

| Plaque Notes | Plaque diameter: 1 mm (millimeter) Plaque radius: 0.5 mm I had small phages on my bacterial plates that measured a diameter of 1 mm (millimeter) or a radius of 0.5 mm (millimeter). Because my radius was small, I had a higher number of PFU required for to create a webbed plate. The larger the radius, the smaller number of PFU required to create a webbed plate. |
