Found By | Blake Beehler |
Year Found | 2012 |
Location Found | Bloomington, IL USA |
Finding Institution | Illinois Wesleyan University |
Program | Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science |
From enriched soil sample? | Yes |
Isolation Temperature | Not entered |
GPS Coordinates | 40.496601 N, 88.991615 W Map |
Discovery Notes | The sample was collected on the surface of soil near a cement-lined canal. Tall grasses were growing nearby. The soil was collected from a patch of earth that had no vegetation growing on it. |
Naming Notes | The name Jaqen was inspired by the character Jaqen H'Ghar from the HBO show "Game of Thrones". In the show, Jaqen is able to change his appearance, which is what has been observed in my plaque morphologies. At certain concentrations clear plaques form from turbid plaques. |
Sequencing Information | |
Sequencing Complete? | No |
Sequencing Facility | Pittsburgh Bacteriophage Institute |
Genome length (bp) | Unknown |
Character of genome ends | Unknown |
Fasta file available? | No |
Characterization | |
Cluster | Unclustered |
Subcluster | -- |
Lysogeny Notes | It is believed that this bacteriophage is a temperate phage that can be induced at certain concentrations back into the lytic cycle. But a test to verify this hypothesis hasn't been performed yet. |
Annotating Institution | Unknown or unassigned |
Annotation Status | Not sequenced |
Plaque Notes | At concentrations where the phage develop isolated colonies the plaques that form are 1.5-2.0mm in diameter, and contain a clearer center less than 1mm in diameter with a more turbid ring around it. At concentrations that produce web plates the plaques that form are very small and slightly turbid. |
