Discovery NotesThe phage was collected from a patch of dirt between the sidewalk and the road, south of Purdue’s campus on Harrison Rd. The temperature was 70 degrees F, or 21.1 degrees C. It was cloudy and 84% humidity. There was some rain the day before so the soil was slightly damp. The soil was also collected at about 1” of depth.
Naming NotesThe phage was named after the cryptid “Jersey Devil”. Lillian Woolley, one of the lab members who worked with this phage, is from New Jersey, so we decided to name it after a local legend from her home state. We also thought the name sounded cool.
